Ayatollah Alireza Arafi was born in the central province of Yazd in 1959. He is a prominent Islamic thinker and scholar.
In a decree in 2019, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei appointed Ayatollah Arafi as a new member of the Constitutional Council’s board of Fuqaha (Islamic jurists). He replaced Ayatollah Mohammad Momen, who passed away in February the same year.
He is currenly also the chairman of Al-Mustafa International University, head of Iran's Seminary and head of Int'l Center for Islamic Sciences.
