Constitutional Council appoints new spokesman

The Constitutional Council presiding board convened on Wednesday morning to elect the council’s spokesman.

During the meeting held ahead of the Council's 41st establishement anniversary, Hadi Tahan Nazif was elected as the new spokesman. Tahan Nazif replaces Abbas-Ali Kadkhodaei, who held the position since 2016.

The Council’s elections take place every year on the anniversary of the establishment of the Council. This year the establishment anniversary falls on Saturday.

Kadkhodaei, who is currently a jurist member and head of the Research Institute of the Constitutional Council, also served as the speaker of the body from 2010 to 2013. From 2001 to 2010, he held the positions of deputy secretary, deputy head in charge of executive and election affairs and spokesperson.

Speaking at the meeting, Secretary of the Constitutional Council Ayatollah Ahamd Jannati thanked Kadkhodaei for his years of service, describing him as a "trustworthy adviser".

In 2019, Tahan Nazif was nominated by former head of the Judiciary Ayatollah Ebrahim Raisi for a position as a legal scholar on the Constitutional Council. In June the same year, when Tahan Nazif was just 36 years old, he was voted into the Council by members of Iran's Parliament as its youngest member.
