On Nov. 4, 2021, Iranian lawmakers voted for Gholam-Reza Molabeigi as a new jurist member of the Constitutional Council, the country’s top supervisory and legislative body. Molabeigi received 141 votes.
The vote took place after Judiciary Chief Gholam-Hossein Mohseni Ejei introduced two candidates for the posts. Seyed Mohammad Hadi Raji, the second candidate, failed to garner the necessary votes to be elected as a jurist member of the Council.
Molabeigi, who holds a PhD in Public Law, replaced Mohammad Dehqan who is currently serving as the vice president for legal affairs in the administration of President Ebrahim Raisi.
