Speaking at a meeting of the National Headquarters for Integrated Red Crescent Services in Tehran on Sunday, Tahan Nazif extended his New Year greetings and expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to address Red Crescent members.
"It was a privilege to be among the esteemed members today, and I felt it my duty to commend all the hardworking individuals serving the people across the nation," he said.
The spokesman highlighted the Red Crescent's significant and visible presence in both domestic and international arenas, describing the organization as "a completely people-based, voluntary network rooted in universal principles”.
The spokesman also hailed the Red Crescent’s active role in humanitarian law, which gains prominence during conflicts and underscores the principles and regulations governing warfare.
He further said, "We have human rights and humanitarian law; humanitarian law is more evident during wars. The meaning of this is that even wars have rules and regulations. Areas where defenseless individuals such as the elderly, children, and women are present should not be attacked or targeted, nor should the entry of medicine and the provision of services to defenseless people be prevented. The Red Crescent is present in these areas as well and assists the people of the world."
Dr. Tahan Nazif continued, "In recent years, General Qassem Soleimani was present in the Aleppo province where two distinct fronts were facing each other. He realized that there were defenseless individuals in that area; before the start of the conflict, he moved these individuals out of that area and sheltered them in a place so they would not be involved in the fighting, and then the confrontation took place."
